Thame Barns Centre

Thame Barns Centre is a joint venture between Thame Town Council and
St Mary's Church.

Sympathetically restored with substantial voluntary labour input, the Centre was opened in 1994 - with on going development until 2000. The venue now comprises a variety of halls / rooms and a fully equipped catering kitchen facility where the original vision was seen as being:-

'... to exist, to encourage initiatives within the Community, and also as a centre, to undertake community initiatives itself'.

The original vision was, in itself, 'dynamic' and the Centre is indeed used extensively e.g :-

  • Sunday morning activities for Church Groups
  • Counselling Centre
  • Day centre for marginalized or disadvantaged groups
    e.g. Age Concern, Oxfordshire M.I.N.D
  • Meeting place for Clubs and Societies
e.g. Thame Historical Society, Thame Chamber Orchestra
  • Choral Societies, 'Market Town Miniaturists', Drawing Club
  • Lifestyle classes: e.g. Keep Fit,Weightwatchers, Slimming World, Pilates, Yoga
  • Christening Parties, Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthday parties
  • Commercial / Business Centre for Seminars & Conferences
  • Church 'Away-days'

The past few years have brought about an increased awareness of the Barns Centre within the Community at large. Regular and encouraging feedback from its users regarding the qualities of its facilities and its surroundings but, perhaps most importantly, the general ambience of the Centre is a testament not only to its Christian ethos but also its willingness to be a core part of our Community life.
